EDITING LIFE: THE GOLEM IN THE BIOTECH CENTURY

The ancient Jewish legend of the Golem--the creation of life through mystical means--has captured the modern imagination. How can this legend be applied to recent and expected developments in bioengineering, genomics and related fields? How does the Golem legend differ from the story of Dr. Frankenstein and his monster? See how Jewish teachings about the creation of artificial beings can help us deal with the challenges of our biotech century.

Presented by

Dr. Byron L. Sherwin

Distinguished Service Professor at Chicago’s Spertus Institute of Jewish Studies.  An internationally renowned Jewish theologian, ethicist and scholar of Jewish philosophy & mysticism, Dr. Sherwin is the author or editor of 25 books, including Golems Among Us.
