Germans and Jews: A Strange, Productive,

and Tragic Relationship

The relationship between Germans and Jews should not be viewed through the prism of the Holocaust.  Before the Holocaust, in the modern period, Jews and Germans lived together in relative harmony and had a great influence upon each other.  It is no coincidence that some of the most important movements in Jewish history had their origins in Germany.  Jews also made great contributions to the economic, cultural, and political history of Germany.
